Senior Architectural Technologist

Job Summary

The Senior Architectural Technologist plays a key role in our design team, reporting to the President.  This role is involved in the production of all aspects of a project, including schematic design, design development, construction documents and contract administration. Possessing passion and creativity in their profession, the successful candidate will have strong building envelope knowledge and a solid technical background including advanced AutoCAD and Revit experience.

Essential Job Duties

  • Work within a collaborative environment with the design team

  • Conduct peer-editing

  • Review and coordination of engineering drawings

  • Prepare development & building permit drawing & packages

  • Oversee application process for both development & building permits

  • Attend and manage independent site meetings with clients, conduct , site reviews and prepare site condition documentation

  • Drawing production accountability

  • Participate in design presentations and client meetings

  • Maintain effective and proactive client communications

  • Address DP comments without assistance

  • Address BP comments from municipality without assistance

  • Review shop drawings

  • Production of architectural drawings including plans, elevations and details for residential, commercial and industrial projects

  • Communicate with clients and construction teams to ensure accurate project details and deadlines

  • Communicate with various municipalities during the building permit process, construction and inspection stages of project

  • Zoning by-law research for a given municipality

  • Assist with training and evaluation of assigned architectural and design/drafting personnel

  • Prepare, review, and approve drawings

  • Prepare specifications, reports and related data tables

  • Extensive National Building Code knowledge to ensure project compliance

  • Perform basic architectural/engineering calculations

  • Liaison with design and drafting groups

Skill and Professional Requirements

  • 10+ years’ experience in an Architectural Technologist role

  • Advanced technical understanding and proficiency in AutoCAD and REVIT required

  • Demonstrated experience creating working and detail drawings and 3D models

  • Thorough understanding of Building Code & Bylaws - ability to implement this information into Code reviews as applicable to each project

  • Advanced knowledge of the drawing production process

  • Advanced knowledge of building envelope and building science

  • Professional attitude, punctual, assertive and personable with strong attention to detail and a commitment to confidentiality

  • Experience with mechanical engineering including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, etc.

  • Ability to listen, speak and communicate effectively

  • Ability to work independently

  • Focused on accuracy and customer satisfaction

  • A proven track record of excellent communication skills

  • Excellent time management skills - ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment

  • Proven experience mentoring and overseeing work of more junior staff ensuring accuracy and quality standards

  • Self-starter - ability to work in group or on an individual basis


Education Requirements

Post-secondary education in a recognized technical or architectural program
